Another season starts with substantially more excitement that follows the every day movement and battles of Martin, a financial advisor, who battles against confronting the Mexican drug cartel, after the disappointment of money laundering deal, so he takes his family from Chicago to Missouri Ozarks. In this new season, Wyatte enjoys living in harmony.
Ozark has proven to be a consistently worthy series and season three may be its best yet. It's expertly written, thrilling in its pacing, and full of complex, charismatic characters brought to life by actors of a top calibre.
I know that stability is the opposite of cartel life, but the tension has to become less repetitive in order to sustain the drama... I want to root for this family, but they no longer seem to be rooting for themselves.
Ozark remains a sturdy and gripping series. I just wish it found more organic ways to keep the twists coming, that it had faith in the strength of its central thread instead of taking a detour like this one, which was always going to end in witless ruin.
An intoxicating mix of ambition & survival, Ozark Season 3 is evolving at an astonishing rate. Bateman, Linney & Garner shine again, while Tom Pelphrey is a welcome addition.
Linney's performance, especially in the last couple episodes of the season, is good enough that she and Olivia Colman will be heading for a compelling Emmy showdown.
