This series tells about a new and different comedy we live through that girl who has been fired from her job and is still looking for a new job. After being thrown out of her job and thrown out by her boyfriend in a strange and unexpected way, the cosmetics saleswoman turns to a new job, becoming a nanny for the three children of a rich British widow. Over time, more strange things appear between that girl and those.
But instead of being a mere reheating of the old format, The Nanny is fresh and markedly sassy, thanks to a spirited and altogether winning performance by Fran Drescher in the title role.
The writing in the show is only average... But Fran Drescher alone makes The Nanny worth a look for those who like their comedy with a dose of chutzpah.
The show was, regardless of how over-the-top it may have seemed (the nasal laugh that ended all nasal laughs, those hilarious under-the-breath insults from Niles), undeniably relatable.
