Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return - Season 1
In this series of exciting scientific fiction, we recount a wide range of adventures about an employee seduced by scientists Kinga Forrester and Max Flunky, a journey that is performed by his robot friends. The series begins with a group of scientists who make a failed attempt to toss them into a bleak future without success and turn them into robots and humans through the 1964 science fiction game.
Thankfully, our new trio is able to give it what for and it certainly won me over. There are a lot of great laughs to be had, including a certain MST3K recurring punchline from the old days.
I'm happy to say that Jonah Ray is a more than capable guy in a yellow jumpsuit whose delivery and presence feels more Mike than Joel. Since I prefer Mike, this immediately helped me to ease into the newness and familiarity of the reboot.
The new 'MST3K' achieves the original's tricky balance, and throws in another one besides: balancing nostalgia for the old show with innovations of the new.
Technically, you could still watch this new season in a random order (as long as you began with the first episode and ended with the season finale), but the increase in serialization actually works nicely to tie the season together.
The funniest sci-fi show of all time (apologies to both Futurama and Red Dwarf), MST3K was as good as the movies it parodied were bad;meaning it was very, very good.
