When two people meet by chance, Nat is the ambitious photographer heading for a bright future at the Los Angeles School of Art, and Richard, an uncomfortable motormouth, simply searches for direct contact. The long journey begins across the Southwest of the United States, where both open a path to many paths with a variety of exotic personalities and events.
Mantzoukas brilliantly juggles all the different forces of Richard's personality so that we never quite know what to make of this guy, which in turn means that we never quite know what will happen next with him and Nat.
A case of realism gone wrong, leading to a complete absence of any incentive whatsoever to care about either of the main characters, let alone get invested in the toxicity of their lives and friendship, thus destroying any real enjoyment.
Neither long nor dumb, Hannah Fidell's "The Long Dumb Road" is in reality a terrifically entertaining odd couple road comedy expertly navigated by costars Tony Revolori and Jason Mantzoukas.
