It may be very frightening in that story, as that story about a woman named Sarah O'Neill is trying to escape her broken past by living in a new home. Sarah tries to build a new life on the outskirts of a rural backwood town with her little son Chris. It may be a very bad decision, as there are more horrific events happening in that house and a terrifying meeting with a mysterious neighbor could destroy her fragile security and cause more terror for her and her son.
Great visual effects and acting by Brie Larson make for an enjoyable watch that embraces a confident and smart woman character, something rarely seen in this genre.
The Hole in the Ground never seeks to differentiate itself from the established horror movie aesthetic: we get creepy jangling lullaby music, a decrepitly old hooded women mumbling to herself ominously, bare feet on creaking wooden floors, broken mirrors.
