Set in the Scottish highlands, the film tells the story of Ritchie, who goes undercover at a Highland conservation centre to make his fortune as an illegal pearl fisher with the help of his two hapless and accident prone mates. Things don’t quite go to plan, however, as Ritchie falls for a preservationist, animal welfare activist.
With its broad, scattergun humour, lazy characterisation and inept plot and dialogue (not to mention its patronising, metropolitan view of "wild" Scotland), Scottish Mussel should have stayed firmly locked in its shell.
