In 1965, bright and ambitious 15-year-old Beverly discovers she's pregnant. Therefore, at 16, Beverly is a wife and mother. She has always dreamt of becoming a writer, but finds her life radically altered by the event. Now she has to go through a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father.
Columbia's marketing exploits the commercial title and producer James Brooks pedigree, but this humorless chick flick is one of Penny Marshall's worst films.
The movie may be based on Beverly Donofrio's memoir of the '60s, but it misses the honesty and grit of the source.

A film with honesty, sincerity and a great big heart.
