The origin story of Bhavesh Joshi, an Indian superhero, who sets out to fulfill his slain friend's wish to clean and reform the country, by training himself to fight and wearing a mask.
All said and done, Motwane breaks into new territories with his innovative take on superhero films. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero has its heart in the right place and its tone is totally indigenous.
The film flirted with the concept of a common man being influenced by graphic novels and superhero movies to become a vigilante...it makes a case for a proper superhero origins film.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero works beautifully until the interval point before gradually losing its way to laboured plotting, implausible twists and banal moralising.
There is much to like here - the atmospherics, Painyuli's performance that is notches above Kapoor's, and Motwane's feel for noir, but his home-grown hero still falls short. Hopefully this will be a franchise...
