Tobias Funke is Lindsay Bluth Funke's husband and father to their teen daughter, Maeby, perhaps the only thing he has ever done right. Tobias is defined by his earnest obliviousness in all he does. He is trained as an analyst-therapist, but combines the words on his business card to go by Analrapist. He frequently makes double entendres that make him sound as if he might be gay, without realizing what he is saying, down to the name of his book, The Man Inside Me, which was a big hit in the gay community after it only used male pro-nouns, supposedly for clarity. After searching for a new calling -- he's a follow your bliss kind of guy, not a bread-winner -- he settles, with great fanfare, on being an actor, with Carl Weathers his ideal of a thespian. His career, such as it is, includes a series of near misses, including the inability to fulfill his role as inmate number two in a prison film because of his never nude condition (see below). He also aspires to join the Blue Man Group, and practices by wearing blue paint. He is fond of dramatically entering or exiting a room, often with a poorly executed somersault. His wife, Lindsay, married him to rebel and it's unclear why they stay together. She thinks he is a gay and he seems to have no interest in her. But even when they try an open marriage, they can't seem to do better than each other.Despite his apparent sexual disinterest in his wife, he frequently tries to come up with ways to spend time with his wife and daughter. He takes a page from Mrs. Doubtfire and poses as a housekeeper, Mrs. Featherbottom, a disguise that fools no one. Background: He was the chief resident of psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital until he lost his license for giving CPR to a man who was not actually having a heart attack, after which the family moved to Newport Beach. He describes himself as a never-nude refusing to ever be completely naked. He wears a pair of extremely short cut-off jeans at all times and for a time mistakenly thinks he has found a kindred spirit in his nephew, George Michael. Show less «
