Griselda Valdez was named after her father Juan's favorite part of a steak. It was never really clear why he liked gristle so much but to each his own. Of course, it might be because he grew up in Nicaragua where the gristle of a steak is like Filet Mignon. Anywho...Griselda's life was not easy. She grew up in a poor village and lived in a small three room shack with her father, her mother, her 6 brothers, and her 4 sisters. The middle child of 11, Griselda was often ignored. The boys would go out to work the fields with their father and Griselda and her sisters were expected to tidy up around the shack and make sure dinner was ready when they got home. One day a travelling missionary group passed through her village and Griselda was introduced to music for the first time. The music took control of her body and she let the rhythm move her. She worked up a real sweat dancing and she loved it so much that she tried to get everybody to dance with her too. The villagers mostly ignored the crazy little girl who was trying to get them to dance but she had dancing in her heart and she knew that one day she would be a professional dancer. That dream lasted about a week. Her father caught her one morning, dancing behind the shack when she was supposed to be chasing down a chicken for their lunch and he broke her foot. It took years for Griselda to recover enough to even walk properly. Then, on her 16th birthday Griselda walked in on her father's brutal torture at the hands of Daniel Salazar. It was love at first sight! The two were inseparable and soon she was pregnant. The two snuck away in the middle of the night and made it to America where Griselda became a devoutly religious housewife and mother. Sadly, Griselda died the same way her dancing dreams died...from a broken foot. Show less «
