Kirsty Jean Mary Strain was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She trained at Langside College in Glasgow before going on to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York under the tutelage of Paul Calderon and George Loros. She lived in New York for 3 years before returning home to work in the UK.
